Swimming: Six new national records at National Championships

Six new national records were set in the national championships at the Tal-Qroqq Pool the past weekend, some of them in the age group events.

Leah Tanti set a new Age Group C record in the 50 breast with a time of 35.74 seconds. The previous record - 35.76 - had been established by Stephanie Schranz in December 1997.

 

Amy Micallef registered a new national record time of 33.68 in the 50m Breast event during the championships

 

Amy Micallef set a new national record in the 50m breast, clocking 33.68 seconds. She thus beat her own previous record of 33.98 set in February this year.

 

Mya Azzopardi during Sunday’s 200m Freestyle Women Group D event win in 2:12,66

Mya Azzopardi set a new Age Group D record for the 100m butterfly event clocking 1:06.18. She had established the previous record of 1:07.29 in April this year.

Francesca Falzon Young swam the 50m backstroke in 31.10 seconds, thus claiming a new national record and also an age Group D record. Mya Azzopardi held the previous record of 31.64 seconds, established last month.

Mikhail Umnov set a new national record in the 200m individual medley, clocking 2:11.4. Thomas Wareing held the previous record of 2:13.41, set last month.

Finally, Leah Tanti was again a protagonist as she set a new Age Group C record for the 50m butterfly with a time of 29.85 seconds. Mya Azzopardi had established the previous record of 30.04 in April last year.
