A man from Msida pleaded guilty to physically assaulting a woman this morning in court and has been held in custody pending the judgment of a previous case.

Seajay Cardona, 25, is charged with injuring the woman, as well as insulting and threatening her with violence last Sunday night. In addition to this, he has been charged with breaching the bail conditions imposed during a previous case that is awaiting judgment. The conditions of bail were imposed last December, and included the prohibition of Cardona approaching the woman he is accused of attacking last Sunday.

Prosecuting inspector Robert Vella argued that the accused is a repeat offender and has a checkered criminal history. In view of the charges leveled against him and the breach of bail conditions, the court was asked to hold the accused in custody, confiscate the €3,000 bail deposit as well as the €20,000 personal guarantee.

Cardona submitted an admission of guilt, leading to the court accepting the request for revocation of bail. Magistrate Grazio Mercieca, presiding over the case, deferred the sitting for September, announcing that judgment would be delivered then.

Lawyers Michael and Lucio Sciriha are representing the accused.
