The Kappara Junction flyover will be opened for traffic tonight after 9pm. For now, the traffic will flow from Imsida going towards St Julian's. Later on this year, when the remainder of the works will be complete, the direction of the traffic will be reverted from St Julian's to Imsida.

Minister for Transport Ian Borg visited the Kappara Junction project this morning. The flyover will be opened tonight. Cars will be able to pass from two lanes.

"We are proud to remind you that this project will be completed weeks before the end of year deadline," the Minister said while accompanied by Transport Malta CEO James Piscopo. He explained that the work peaked during the summer season as there are less cars on the road.

Borg said that the government is embarking on other very important road works, including the works on the airport roundabout.

The project which started back in April 2016, is both on budget and on time and the government should be able to cut the ribbon by end of this year. The project will be completed thanks to the EU Cohesion funds allocated for the years 2014 - 2020.

The project will cost a total of €35 million, €33 million of which derive from EU funds. According to TEN-T studies, the junction has a traffic volume of more than 90,000 a day.
