A Maltese man found himself in court this morning after an evening rendezvous with a woman turned sour when he discovered that she is in fact a pre-op transgender woman.

The accused was charged with injuring several police officers while they were trying to carry out their duties, failing to obey orders coming from police officers, intending to injure another two officers with a shard of glass and a wooden rod, injuring the woman, causing €2,500 worth of damage to her apartment, disturbing the peace and disrupting neighbours. He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, suspended for two years. He was also fined €800.

The incident took place on 23 July in an apartment at Marsascala. The court heard how the woman had invited the man over to her apartment, where the two shared a bottle of wine. As the pair got closer and shared an intimate moment, the man found that his partner for the night was a pre-op transgender woman.

The man then reacted violently, leading her to call the authorities, following which a loud scene ensued that disturbed the peace of the nearby residents.

Lawyer Joe Giglio represented the accused while Magistrate Anthony Vella presided. Inspector Josric Mifsud prosecuted.
