The weather is crazy, it is often said, and it was certainly the case yesterday when the Maltese Islands experienced soaring temperatures, rainfall and a violent thunderstorm all on the same day.

The thunderstorm was filmed from Marsalforn, Gozo, shortly after midnight. No rain was reported in that area.

But it was a different case in Malta where many people, particularly in the south, woke up this morning to find their cars covered in brown spocks.

Temperatures on Monday hit 36 degrees Celsius – the highest so far this year. The heat is expected to decrease slightly over the next few days but will start picking up again towards the weekend.
