President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca was given an official welcome ceremony at the beginning of a historic state visit to the Republic of Ghana. This is the first state visit by a Maltese head of state to sub-Saharan Africa.

The President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo greeted President Coleiro Preca at Flagstaff House, where they held a private tête-à-tête.

President Coleiro Preca said that she was very positive about the mutual understanding that there is much more to be done to explore further the potential of both countries, to deepen opportunities, and to enhance the excellent bilateral relations in the areas of social, political, and economic life between the Republic of Malta and the Republic of Ghana.

President Coleiro Preca remarked that while Malta is uniquely placed in a superb geostrategic position in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea between Africa and Europe, Ghana too is fast becoming a regional hub for opportunities in other West African markets. This further widens the opportunities for Maltese businesses looking for new markets.

The President of Malta is accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion Carmelo Abela, and a delegation from TradeMalta.
