Applications for October intake open

During a short ceremony held on 26 July, University of Malta rector, Professor Alfred J. Vella, presented certificates of achievement to 176 students who successfully completed one or more Units within the University's Programme in the Liberal Arts and Sciences (Plas) during the academic year 2016-2017. Sixteen students were also awarded the Certificate in Liberal Studies (Cert.L.S.), while others will be receiving the Higher/Diploma and the Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies during the November graduation ceremonies.

The programme's broad appeal can be seen in the diverse profiles of certificate recipients. Its flexibility and learner-oriented ethos gives individuals the opportunity to follow Plas Units for their personal or professional development, and at their own pace.

Plas Units consist of weekly evening lectures held between 6 and 8pm, normally spread over 14 weeks. Applicants are free to choose any and as many Plas units as they wish.

The Centre for the Liberal Arts and Science (Clas) is currently accepting applications for Plas Units during the first semester of the next academic year (Oct. 2017/Jan. 2018). The subjects being offered include Sociology, Psychology of Communication, Maltese History, Online Teaching and Learning, Opera Appreciation, the Maltese Constitution and Human Rights, Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature, Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Literature, Consumer Rights, and Communication and Learning in Museums.

In collaboration with the Department of Computer Science, the Centre is also offering four Plas Tech Unit on Data Science, Enterprise Architecture, Extreme Java Development, 3D Modeling and Visualisation using Maya. Plas Tech Units are intended mainly for ICT professionals.

Further information on individual units and application fees can also be found on the Clas website. The deadline for applying is 15 September.
