Stolen vehicles decreased in 2015 compared to 2014, report shows

The number of stolen cars in Malta decreased slightly in 2015 when compared to the previous year, according to regional statistics published by the National Statistics Office. 241 cars were stolen in 2014, with the number going down to 221 the following year.

The Northern Harbour district experienced the highest number of stolen car reports. It includes Birkirkara, Swatar, Gżira, Ħamrun, Msida, Pembroke, Pietà, Qormi, St Julian’s, Santa Venera, Sliema, Swieqi, Maliena and Ta' Xbiex. In these localities, the number of stolen cars went down to 91 in 2015 compared to the 100 reported in 2014. Still, this substantially higher, compared to other districts in the island.

The Southern Harbour, which includes Vittoriosa, Cospicua, Fgura, Floriana, Senglea, Kalkara, Luqa, Marsa, Paola, Santa Luċija, Tarxien, Valletta, Xgħajra and Żabbar, had the second highest number of stolen car reports. However the number went down from 46 in 2014 to 37 in 2015.

The Northern district also experienced an increase in stolen cars. The region consists of Għargħur, Mellieħa, Imġarr, Mosta, Naxxar and St Paul’s Bay. 35 vehicles were stolen in 2014, rising to 38 in 2015.

In the Western region, which is made up of Attard, Balzan, Dingli, Iklin, Lija, Mdina, Mtarfa, Rabat Siġġiewi and Żebbuġ, there were 17 reports in 2014 and 10 in 2015.

The South Eastern district saw a small marginal decrease from 37 cars being reported stolen in 2014 to 36 in 2015. This region includes the following locations: Birżebbuġa, Għaxaq, Gudja, Kirkop, Marsaskala, Marsaxlokk, Mqabba, Qrendi, Safi, Żejtun and Żurrieq.

On the other hand, Gozo and Comino had the lowest number of reported stolen vehicles with 6 being reported in 2014 and 9 in 2015.
