Man offered to sell drugs to plainclothes police officers in Paceville club

A 23-year Algerian man was arrested by plainclothes officers after he inadvertently approached them and tried to sell them drugs, a court heard today.

The case took place in Paceville nightclub.

Abdelkader Chergui, who lives in Ħal Far, stands accused of dealing cannabis and cocaine within 100 metres of a place frequented by youths.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded in custody after the court denied him bail. 

Inspectors Lara Butters and Justine Grech prosecuted.

In a separate arraignment, 21-year-old Somali national Sacid Mohamed Abdillahi pleaded not guilty to being in possession of cannabis in circumstances which indicated it was not intended for his personal use.  

He was also denied bail.

Lawyer Josette Sultana was legal aid for both men.
