What the Hon. Marlene Farrugia, supposedly leader of the PD, said in court during the hearing of the case instituted by the PL against the extra two seats given to the PN by the electoral commission, must have confused all those who had thought that voting for Marlene Farrugia and her PD candidates, was to get a third party in Parliament. In fact, Dr Marlene Farrugia boasted of this as soon as she got to know that she had been elected to parliament. I have always said that Marlene Farrugia is “loyal only to herself and no one else”. She has proved me right, and under oath to boot.
In court, Marlene Farrugia declared after kissing the cross, that she is a “PN deputy” and that she will be “under the Whip of the PN”. However, everybody knows that she never acted as if she was under the PL Whip, who happened to be her own partner, Dr Godfrey Farrugia. Marlene’s ambition is one – to finally try to take over the leadership of the PN. The setting-up of the PD was the first step.
In fact, on 19 March, I wrote in the Sunday Times of Malta: “So, in my view, this so-called ‘coalition’ which Marlene Farrugia is seeking with the PN is no coalition at all. It is just Marlene Farrugia returning to her pet party, but hoping to play a much more important role in the PN, especially now that Simon Busuttil’s future as PN leader is very bleak indeed . I do believe that Marlene Farrugia’s secret ambition is to finally take over the leadership of the PN.”
The following month, April, I again confirmed my view when I said : “That is why I strongly believe that her ‘political marriage’ to Simon Busuttil, is one of convenience more than conviction, in order to satisfy her desperate ambition to take over the leadership of any party which gives her the chance to attain her ambition of becoming Malta’s first female prime minister.”
Dr Marlene Farrugia’s speedy conversion from PD leader to PN deputy, while instantly debunking her pre-election clarion call for a “third party in parliament” gives a clear insight of what goes on in the mind of this megalomaniac politician. Just as she politically deceived Pl voters in March 2013, similarly she has deceived PD voters on 3 June 2017. Simon Busuttil fell for her ploy and whoever takes over from him, will now have to carry the burden and face the music. I am sure we will have a very entertaining five years in parliament whenever Marlene Farrugia decides to attend a parliamentary sitting and stands up to speak . One hopes she does not forget that she would be speaking about in Parliament, and so does not also use certain vulgar words she has now resorted to.
The Hon. Marlene Farrugia has gone from the PN to PL, then to PD and now to PN. What’s next? Her latest vicious and revolting attack on Michelle Muscat and the Prime Minister, after Michelle’s ‘From North to Port’ swim, should convince the PN’s new leader to rid the PN opposition of this woman the soonest possible . She is a worse liability than Daphne Caruana Galizia. And that is saying something.
