Delia calls for PN to allow free-vote on sensitive, divisive issues should he be elected

In the coming months the Nationalist Party will be faced with laws, proposed by Government, that are intended to catch the opposition out and create ethical and moral division, PN leader hopeful Adrian Delia said to paid up members of the party.

He is referring to proposed legislation of a more liberal nature, which have in the past created deep divisions within the PN, such as the marriage equality and civil union bills.

Delia said that the party should not stifle its MP’s freedom of expression, like what is happening within the Labour Party and all those MPs who do not agree with its leader.

“I am proposing that, immediately after this election, if I am made PN leader....I will lead the parliament group and if need be from the very first meeting we will identify those ethical themes and begin internal discussions on where there is agreement and where there is no agreement we will declare that a free vote will be given”.

He called for less bipartisanism when it comes to sensitive issues, adding that a research team should be dedicated within the PN so that whatever issue comes up, the PN’s position would be up to date and based on studied, reasoned reports.
