Cash in excess of €10,000 seized by Customs officials at airport

Customs officials stationed at Malta International Airport this morning seized cash in of €10,000 found on a Maltese man traveling to Kiev via Istanbul.

The passenger had a total of €13,650 which he claimed to be traveling money. The police’s Economic Crimes Unit was informed and the man was allowed to travel and will be taken to court on his return, the department said.

According to the European law, passengers traveling with more than €10,000 in cash to or from any EU country are obliged to submit a declaration to Customs.
