Anthony Buttigieg will be contesting for the leadership of the Partit Demokratiku, the former deputy leader said.
Buttigieg had resigned from PD deputy leader after the election, when leader Marlene Farrugia had said she did not exclude contesting for the Nationalist Party leadership.
In a statement, PD said it welcomed the statement by Buttigieg.
Dr Anthony Buttigieg announced his intentions, in an official resignation letter, which formalises his previously publicized stepping down from deputy leader.
This letter was submitted today to the outgoing PD leader Hon Dr Marlene Farrugia.
Partit Demokratiku said it welcomed broader participation by the general public in the continued evolution and growth of this new party.
Leader Marlene Farrugia last Saturday announced that she is not interested in the post and that an election for new leader will take place in October.
