The new offices for the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability is scheduled to be completed by the end of October, Parliamentary Secretary Anthony Agius Decelis announced at a press conference during a visit to the site.

It was also revealed that the project will cost €78,000 and is on a ten-year rental contract.

The large space, which consists of two floors and a garage, is located across from the Samsung and Fiat stores on Psaila Street in Birkirkara.

The garage is available for clients with disabilities only.

Agius Decelis said that the new building will be able to provide more accessibility and independence to the commission.

"It is being built to serve the needs of every person, with every standard of accessibility. Hopefully, other government departments can copy this and use it as a model."

"It deserves to be housed in an independent building, in order to function as the watchdog for when we do not perform to their standards."

Commissioner Oliver Scicluna said that building was constructed around the concept that the office will be accessible for everyone.

"We believe that we provide a high-quality service, and the building will reflect this. Over the last couple of years, we have been operating out of an old building with poor accessibility."
