Andre Silva and Riccardo Montolivo both scored twice as Milan all-but secured qualification for the Europa League with a 6-0 victory over Shkendija Tetovo.

The Italian side scored three goals either side of a half-time in their qualifying play-off at the San Siro on Thursday.

New boy Fabio Borini and Luca Antonelli also got on the scoresheet for Vincenzo Montella's side, who head to Macedonia for the second leg knowing only a catastrophe can prevent them being in the hat for the group stages.

A number of other big European teams were dealt blows in their Europa League qualifying hopes, however.

Ajax were beaten 1-0 by Rosenborg at the Amsterdam Arena on Thursday, with Samuel Adegbenro scoring the only goal of the game. Everton beat Hajduk Split 2-0.

Turkish side Fenerbache, too, face an uphill battle to reach the group stages after they suffered a 2-0 first-leg defeat to Macedonian side Vardar.

Both sides had a man sent off before Mehmet Topal scored an own goal deep into stoppage time. Tigran Barseghyan had earlier put the home side in front with a goal on 20 minutes.

Marseille's tie with NK Domzale is in the balance heading into the second leg after a 1-1 draw in Slovenia on Thursday. Morgan Sanson scored a second-half equaliser for the Ligue 1 side, who had fallen behind to Amedej Vetrih's first-half opener.

Elsewhere, Athletic Bilbao beat Panathinaikos 3-2 in Greece in the first leg thanks to a brace from Aritz Aduriz on Greece.
