No Maltese among victims of terror attack in Spain

There is no information so far about any Maltese being among the victims in Thursday’s terrorist attacks in Barcelona, the government said.

The Foreign Ministry said is closely following the incident and is in constant contact and coordination with Malta’s Embassy in Madrid as well as with the Spanish authorities.

The Ministry informs the public that the Embassy of Malta in Madrid is ready to offer any help to Maltese nationals.

In a separate statement, Foreign Minister Carmel Abela said he “was appalled to learn of today’s terrorist attack in Barcelona. Our deepest sympathies go out to all the families and friends of the victims. Our thoughts are also with those who were injured or witnessed this tragic event.

“Whilst I would like to express our firm condemnation of this heinous, senseless and despicable act, we stand united with the government and the people of Spain and we assure them of our full solidarity and support during this difficult time.
