Chris Said pledges to work from different localities every week

Chris Said today pledged that as leader of the Nationalist Party he would work from a different locality around the country each week.

“This is not a gimmick. It will allow me to meet our people in the heart of our localities. The party will be going to them. We need an active party in our towns and cities. This is why I will put an end to the selling of our local clubs and turn them into active hubs of local politics all year round.”

Interviewed by Angelo Micallef on Radio 101 this morning, Dr Said said that with him at the helm of the party the doors of the party will be open to all those who are ready to genuinely work hard and put the interest of the party and the country always first.

“The task ahead is huge but so is our will. I’m convinced that there has never been a more exciting time to join the Nationalist Party. This will be a time of regeneration, of welcoming new ideas, of building new bridges, re-igniting old friendships and looking ahead as one team.”

Said reiterated his position that as leader of the party Simon Busuttil will remain at the heart of the party, where he still has a lot to contribute, especially in the fight he started against institutional corruption.

He also emphasised that as leader of the Opposition he would give his colleagues a free vote on matters of conscience, morality and ethics.

“The Nationalist Party under my helm will become once again the workers’ party – we will present proposals to ensure that workers are able to better their quality of life, which means higher wages, more time spent with the family, a safer, cleaner environment, a meritocratic country and the possibility to look ahead with optimism.”

Said added that he wants to equip his Parliamentary Group so that the Nationalist Party serves the country as a formidable opposition, collaborating with government whenever it’s in the country’s best interest but being tough whenever it feels that government is taking our people for a ride. Injustices against Nationalist Party supporters, for example, will not be taken lightly. "If government thinks there is no strong opposition stopping it, it will soon be in for a surprise."
