Updated (2): Woman dies, two men injured in head-on collision

A woman, aged 45 from Mosta, lost her life while two men were hospitalised in a head-on collision this afternoon on the road connecting Mosta and Mgarr.

The woman, named as Janie Turner, is a mother of  three, including a four-year-old boy. She was a passenger in a Perodua Kancil driven by a 41-yearold man of St Paul's Bay which was involved in a crash with another vehicle, a Mazda Demio, by a 26-year-old of Santa Lucia.

The traffic accident took place at around 3.15pm. Several ambulances were called on the scene to provide treatment.

Both men were taken to hospital, with the Perodua driver suffering from grievous injuries.

Members of the Civil Protection Department were called on site to release the body of the woman from the car.

Both the police and rescuers from the Civil Protection Department were assisting, while the road has been closed to traffic. People are urged to avoid the area.

Magistrate A Vella is conducting an inquiry.
