An Italian national was remanded in custody on charges of aggravated possession and trafficking of drugs.

Inspector Malcolm Bondin explained that the accused, 43-year-old Antonino Tuzza from Sicily, was found in possession of the cannabis plant while in Saint Paul’s Bay. He was also found to be in possession of cocaine.

The court, presided by magistrate Audrey Demicoli heard how the amount of drugs found showed that they were not for personal consumption.

Tuzza, a construction worker with no fixed residence in Malta, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. Assisted by legal aid lawyer Chris Chircop, the man did not make a request for bail.

The accused was remanded in custody. Police inspectors Malcolm Bondin and Gordon Scerri led the prosecution.
