Energy Minister Joe Mizzi this morning inaugurated the Energy and Water agency's new offices at the Water Services Corporation, in Luqa.

Mizzi spoke of the importance of visiting all workers who fall under the water and energy sectors, and stressed that he will continue visiting in order to listen to new ideas.

The CEO of the agency, Daniel Azzopardi spoke about the gas pipeline, stating that last month's news of the application for permits is encouraging and a step forward.

"The government agency is the first of its kind, and was introduced in 2014 but has been growing and employing more personnel, and is now fully established," he said.

Azzopardi explained that the agency is a policy-making, design and implementation agency. "We focus on making sure our policies are in line with policies in Brussels, and that we are present in the EU negations so that we can implement what is decided in Brussels. We also ensure that what we implement is a win-win scenario for the government, the citizens and industry."

He also spoke about the agency's role in community farms, energy efficiency and the 2020 and 2030 targets. He said that Malta is reaching its 2020 renewable energy targets.
