Nationalist Party leadership contender Adrian Delia today said that the audited version of his declaration of assets will be published on Friday, one day before PN members are to cast their vote to elect a new leader.

Speaking at a press conference outside the PN Headquarters, Delia said the document was being finalised and will be certified and verified; however he gave no indication that this will include his tax returns, which would reveal his yearly income.

The press conference is one of the last events in which Delia is calling upon the party members to choose a new way, his slogan for the election campaign. Delia said that while the party was at a crossroads, it was “not dead” and was “not in a state of panic’.

“Throughout the election we have seen a lot of enthusiasm, especially from people who are not usually involved with the party. Opening up the vote to paid-up members was a victory for the party and it will be better of because of it.”

Turning to the issue which was revealed by The Malta Independent surrounding a number of lifetime paid-up members who were mysteriously absent from the voting registry, Delia said that he has been informed that those individuals who launched a formal complaint with the party have now been given the right to vote.

Facing questions concerning the average age of paid-up members, which is 60, and what he intended to do to attract more young people to the party, Delia said that party’s youth wing, the MZPN is doing sterling work to attract young people towards politics.

He said that more needed to be done to empower young people to be better involved with the party.
