As of July, the number of people on the unemployment register is 2499, a drop in 861 persons from the previous year, and about 4851 less than 2013.

A government statement said that these are the best figures since the 1960s and has seen young people benefit the most with a decrease of 963 unemployed individuals since 2013.

There was also a decrease of 1792 persons of those aged 45 years or more.

Other categories considered at risk also showed improvement.

There was a decrease of 1652 since the change in government among those who have been registering for more than one year.

 Another success was achieved by reducing the number of unemployed persons with disabilities. Last July they fell to 284 from 564 in early 2013.

With regards to Gozitans, the number of registered unemployed decreased to 390 from 742 at the end of July 2017 .This is the lowest number ever since they had begun collecting statistics.
