Five Maltese people were arrested following a raid in Marsa, the police said in a statement.
The raid occurred on Triq is-Serkin. The five people arrested were aged between 22 and 39, and reside in Birkirkara, Marsa, Cospicua and Hamrun. They were found to be in possession of more than a kilo of substance suspected to be heroin, which was ready to be trafficked. They were also found to be in possession of other items related to the trafficking of heroin.
A number of the people arrested were found in an old garage which had caught fire. The police and the CPD saved a number of animals including horses, pigs, ducks and birds and some of the people arrested.
A magisterial inquiry has been opened. In the coming days, the arrested persons will be taken before the courts on charges related to drug trafficking, possession and animal cruelty.
