Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia has inaugurated five new fire engines, known as rangers, valued at €900,000 inside the CPD Hal Far station.
The minister said that these vehicles can carry 5,000 litres of water, which is more than the vehicles which are being replaced.
The CPD is currently undergoing a process wherby its fleet of vehicles are being changed over a six year period. The current 50 vehicle fleet is more than 19-years-old, and as such do not have the latest technology.
The process replacing the vehicles began in 2014, the minister said. Vehicles known as turntable ladders which have the ability to help fight fire in high buildings will be brought to Malta, he added.
