A Romanian national was sent to seven months in prison for stealing a mobile phone. 47-year-old Vasile Dumitru appeared before the courts this morning charged with pickpocketing an iPhone 7 smartphone.

The court heard how the theft occurred on 13 September in Valletta. The phone belonged to a certain Susa Anne Hannay from the UK.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges of theft. The court, presided by magistrate Ian Farrugia, noted that the man breached the conditions imposed by bail in a previous sitting. Dumitru was sent to prison.
