A man was today jailed for 16 months after pleading guilty to taking part in a mugging in Fgura earlier this month.
His brother, who also stands charged over the incident, denies the accusations.
Kevin Borg, 35, from Qawra, admitted to stealing a necklace, tampering with a vehicle registration certificate and licence disc and relapsing in connection with the mugging of a woman, which happened in broad daylight in St Thomas Street Fgura.
His brother, Anthony, 40, who lives in Cospicua, is charged with breaching the conditions of a suspended sentence and carrying tools used for burglary without good reason.
The men are also charged with holding the woman against her will and of handling stolen property.
Appearing in court yesterday, Kevin Borg apologized to the victim. Asked by magistrate Joe Mifsud why he had committed the theft, the man said he was trying to pay a loan shark.
The accused was jailed for 16 months while the court also issued a treatment order, a three-year supervision order and a protection order in favour of the victim.
The case against the older brother will continue next month.
The prosecution was led by police inspectors Carlos Cordina and Spiridione Zammit.
