56,000 students, 9,600 educators back to school on Monday

More than 56,000 students and 9,600 educators will be back to school on Monday in government, independent and Church institutions, the government said.

The number of students attending kindergarten classes is 9,382; there are then 26,173 students in primary schools and 20,802 in secondary schools.

They with be taught by 5,085 teachers, 3,173 learning support assistants and 692 kindergarten assistants. This means an increase of 600 teachers and 200 LSAs.

The number of students in the fourth year who will benefit of the one tablet per child programme is 4,432. The number last year was 4,387.

The government said that the visual and performing arts school will open its doors for the first time on Monday, with students to specialise in drama, music, dance and media.
