A would-be robber fled from a shop empty handed after the cashier resisted, the police said this evening.

The case took place in Triq Sir Hugo Mifsud, Lija, at around 6:15pm.

The police said a masked man holding a sharp and pointed object entered the shop and demanded that the cashier hand over the money. But the man resisted and the assailant made off empty handed.

The Birkirkara district police are investigating.
