The government once again appealed to the Opposition to reverse its position and appoint a member on the waste to energy committee, an idea that the PN has opposed.
The first meeting of the committee, set up to analyse reports on technology to be used to convert waste to energy, was held yesterday.
Environment Minister Jose Herrera explained the committee’s terms of reference to the members, all of whom were present except for the Opposition representative.
Minister Herrera said that this project is one of the main challenges that the country is facing, and once completed it will manage 40 per cent of the waste generated. He appealed to the Opposition to change its mind and be part of the process.
Minister Herrera also urged the Opposition to appoint its member on the Environment and Resources Authority board after the resignation of Prof. Maria Attard more than three months ago.
