Environment Minister Jose Herrera called on the police to take strong action against hunters who are breaking the law.

In a terse statement more than 24 hours after flamingos were shot, and a few hours after BirdLife reported that another four protected birds had fallen victim to hunting, Minister Herrera said the police should take all action necessary to ensure that protected birds are safeguarded against the whims of irresponsible hunters.

These hunters, the minister said, are causing damage to their other colleagues to obey the law.
