Planning Authority funds resurfacing works on arterial road in Marsascala

Upgrading works on the carriage way of Triq il-Qaliet in Marsascala have been completed. The works which cost just under €120,000 were funded by the Planning Authority’s Development Planning Fund.

The road which cuts through the locality was notorious for potholes and patchy maintenance work to the detriment of travelling vehicles and residents living in the surrounding area. The works stretching over 250 meters were carried out by the local council and included the removal of the existing material and the laying of asphalt.

Chairperson of the Planning Authority’s Executive Council Johann Buttigieg said that, “the purpose of the Development Planning Fund, which was launched earlier this year, is to widen the scope for funding and therefore give greater flexibility to what projects can qualify.”

Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Property Market, Chris Agius stated that such project enables the local council of the area to improve the tourism product within their locality. He urged all Local Councils to apply for such funding for projects which enhance the quality of life within our towns and villages.

This new fund sees its financing coming from the amalgamation of the successful Urban Improvement Fund with that of the dormant Commuted Parking Payment Scheme. In addition, 20% of the revenue generated through applications for the regularisation of development is also being directed to the fund. This combination is bringing and making millions more available in funding for local councils to carry out projects which will better the lives of their residents.
