‘The Esplora Pink October Night Walk’ will be held on Friday 20th October starting from Villa Bighi at 9.30pm, the Office of the Prime Minister said.
The Night Walk, which will be preceded by an evening of science basking organized by Esplora, will take the participants down to Kalkara Bay, around St Angelo’s fortifications, onto the Cottonera waterfront end, and at the ending of the Cospicua promenade in front of the American University of Malta.
Chairperson of the Marigold Foundation, Mrs Michelle Muscat, launched this initiative following the massive bike ride held yesterday initiating the first of a series of events. Mrs Muscat explained that this year’s walk is being held at night to tie in with this year’s Pink October challenge. “Would you rather sit in the dark or turn on the light?: Face Your Fear” is the challenge being presented to the public so as to help people face the challenge and get over the fear of checking oneself. With a high percentage of invitations sent to the women over 50 for a free scan it is time to step up the awareness on the importance of checking oneself.
The National Campaign is to bring on board both the public and private medical authorities and aims to create awareness across generations.
Another event launched is ‘Doctors in the City’ on the 21st of October in Valletta. Breast cancer surgeons and nurses will be holding open clinics during the Saturday morning at Pjazza Ħelsien, Valletta. Free check-ups and consultations will be carried by the doctors whilst The National Breast Unit at Lascaris Wharf will be open for walk-in mammograms and ultrasounds.
Money raised during Pink October 2017 will go towards a personalised wellbeing program for breast cancer patients alongside their medical treatment program prescribed by the medical treatment surgeons.
