Air Rifle Shooting: Cacciattolo, Xuereb overall winners of Lawrence Darmanin Challenge Cup

The Malta Air Rifle and Pistol Shooting Club (MARPSC) held their presentation for the winners of the Lawrence Darmanin Challenge Cup for 2016-17.   

This Challenge Cup is in honour of the late President of MARPSC Lawrence Darmanin who was fundamental in the development of target shooting in Malta.

In the Air Pistol discipline, the winner was Raymond Cacciattolo, followed by Stephen Vassallo and Antoine Attard.

In the Air Rifle discipline, the winner was Gianluca Azzopardi Spiteri, followed by Michael Xuereb and William Vella.

Raymond Cacciattolo and Michael Xuereb were the overall winners who were presented with the Shield.

The tropies and shields were presented by Mrs Josianne Darmanin, widow of late Lawrence Darmanin, and their son Andre' Darmanin.

The trophies were sponsored by Mr Geroge Cassar L.L.M.A.

First competition for 2017-18

The Malta Air Rifle and Pistol Shooting Club started their league 2017-18 with their first competition held on Saturday 30September in both Air Pistol and Air Rifle disciplines, at the Larry Vella Hall indoor range in Bidnija.  In both events the shooters had to shoot 6 sets of 10 shots each in 1hr 15 minutes.

Air Pistol event

The winner of the 10m Air Pistol event was Eleanor Bezzina classified as follows:

1st Eleanor Bezzina with 568 from 600 points

2ndStephen Vassallo with 534 from 600 points

3rd Raymond Cacciattolo with 5529 from 600 points

Air Rifle event

The winner of the 10m Air Rifle event was GianLuca Azzoaprdi Spiteri classified as follows:

1st GianLuca Azzopardi Spiteri with 590.2 from 654points

2nd Alison Formosa with 569.8 from 654 points

3rd Michael Xuereb with 555.5 from 654 points.

The next competition is scheduled for Saturday 21 October at 3pm.
