Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this evening pledged to "stop at nothing" to get to the truth behind the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and suggested the possibility o0f involving Europol in the case.

Speaking on the margins of a European Council meeting, Muscat said he welcomed and agreed with comments of European Parliament President Antonio Tajani to the effect that that there should be an international investigation into the murder.

Muscat said one would still need to see how that would be done, and suggested the possibility of roping in Europol.

Earlier today Tajani had remarked that there could have been a foreign element involved in Caruana Galizia's slaying, as had been reported by The Malta Independent this morning.

This crime, Muscat said, had not only been perpetrated against Caruana Galizia and her family, but also against freedom of expression and the Maltese state itself.

He also said that the government was looking at certain means of gathering information that could be deemed controversial, such as the offering of a reward for information, in order to ultimately get to the truth of the matter.
