Updated: Industrial action by cabin crew called off after agreement reached

Friday, 20 October 2017, 11:35 Last update: about 8 years ago

Industrial action by the Union of Cabin Crew was stopped today after the union, Air Malta and the General Workers Union reached an agreement on “outstanding issues between them.”

As a result, and with immediate effect, all industrial actions taken by the Unions have been suspended and the airline’s operations will return to normal with immediate effect, Air Malta announced in a statement. The airline thanked all parties for reaching an agreement “in the best interest of the airline, its employees, customers and the country at large.”

Flights were being delayed by up to 30 minutes after the UCC had ordered its members to ‘go slow’ over a dispute on their collective agreement.

Earlier today, the Gozo Tourism Association warned that the industrial action could lead to “irreparable consequences” to the tourism industry in Malta. GTA said such consequences “will cascade on to the sister island and affect badly the sensitive tourism industry on Gozo.”

On Thursday, the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) said the “tiresome” industrial action was causing economic damage.
