Former Juventus and Birkirkara player Fabrizio Miccoli was jailed for three and a half years for extortion, Italian media report.

He will appeal the judgment

Miccoli played 259 matches in the Serie A with Perugia, Juventus, Fiorentina and Palermo, spending some time on loan with Benfica in Portugal. He later spent two seasons in his hometown Lecce before finishing his career with Birkirkara.

He also played 10 times for Italy, scoring two goals.
