Both the Labour Party and the Nationalist Party will be officially taking part in the national protest that will be organised by the Civil Society Network in Valletta on Sunday.
The demonstration is being held following the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia last Monday.
Civil Society Network however made it clear that although political parties have announced their attendance, this civil society event is organized by civil society members and is in no way a partisan event.
Political party, partisan and anti-partisan flags or banners will be strictly prohibited.
Political party leaders and members of parliament and their spouses/partners are not to stay in front part of the march, which will be led by civil society volunteers and speakers.
The list of speakers following the march will not include members of parliament, the network said.
In a statement today, the Labour Party said it will extend its support towards the demonstration which will take place tomorrow in Valletta, calling for justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia's murder.
The Labour Party and the whole nation's wish is that justice be done. That is why a delegation of the Labour Party will accept the invitation of the Civil Society Network and attend the demonstration.
The Labour Party notes the organiser's appeal that this demonstration should not be partisan or offensive and sustains that this spirit must guide us as a nation in the face of last Monday's barbaric act. An act to which we must answer as a united nation, the PL said.
The Church will also be taking part in the event. Asked for a comment, a spokesman for the Curia said that “this is not a political event but one which is organised by civil society. Everyone is free to attend, including the clergy and religious.”
AD Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo said that the Greens will take part in the demonstration in Valletta following the assasination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Alternattiva Demokratika expresses its solidarity with anyone who values freedom of thought and freedom of expression in our country. Values which are under threat.
AD will participate because we feel that this barbaric act should strengthen the resolve of all Maltese who favour the need for reform to state institutions, transforming them into a strong shield of the value of free expression and the rule of law . AD continues to insist on urgent reforms of these institutions along with much needed constitutional reforms.
This tragic moment in our history should translate into action and a clear signal by those in a position of power and authority in this country that they are serious about reforms. They need to stop their procrastinationand launch the reform process to reverse the perception, based on our history as a nation, of a weak and incompetent state.
Most importantly, concluded Cacopardo, the participation of Alternattiva Demokratika is a gesture of solidarity with the family of Mrs Caruana Galizia in this sad and difficult moment.
The Partit Demokratiku also said it will take part.
