The PN has called a Parliamentary Group meeting today, and while the topic up for discussion is not exactly clear, the call comes in the midst of a clear division within the party.
Yesterday, it was reported elsewhere that a number of PN MPs refused to walk with Delia at the rally held to commemorate Daphne Caruana Galizia, who was killed a week ago, resulting in him refusing to attend. Officially, when asked about his attendance, Delia said: "today is not about me but about the rule of law and democracy. I will not stir controversy on a day of national unity and will continue to fight for democracy and freedom of speech as the Leader of the Opposition."
Delia was heavily criticised by journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia before her murder, and had in the past referred to her as a 'bicca blogger'. He had instituted five libel cases against her, which he withdrew after her killing.
PN MP Jason Azzopardi, who has been openly critical about Delia even before the PN Leadership election took place, and openly supported his rival Chris Said, posted the following on Facebook: "You would be amazed how some people change quickly. Yesterday in Valletta there were people clapping who in Summer, instigated and incited against Daphne Caruana Galizia, for her to be left alone, to be discredited and blamed for the electoral loss. They wanted her to be insulted by everyone. She was killed when she was left swimming alone. Whoever killed her knows the Maltese political scene well."
In a separate post, Azzopardi wrote: "Pity that Net News crew had directions to avoid carrying any footage of MPs present for the protest." Azzopardi was seen at the forefront of the event, in particularly the follow-up protest that was held in front of the police headquarters. With him were two other MPs who were against Delia, Karol Aquilina and former leader Simon Busuttil. All three made sure that they were picked by the cameras.
Azzopardi was not the only person to speak out recently.
Former PN candidate David Thake took to Facebook and said, prior to yesterday's march and prior to the publication of the article which read that Delia would not be attending "what irony, those who called her 'bicca blogger', 'witch' are tomorrow coming to ride the rising tide of sympathy and anger. Go to hell, she was the voice of good, and you are not."
Former PN Secretary General Paul Borg Olivier was not pleased with lawyer Arthur Azzopardi's appearance on Net TV discussing the murder.
"Can someone tell me how a mason whose membership was removed, was not allowed to vote, can be Adrian Delia's lawyer in a libel case against Daphne Caruana Galizia and be on NET as a legal expert...! What an insult. Arthur your place is not there."
