The ELT Council hosted the sixth ELT Malta Conference between 12 and 14 October at the Grand Hotel Excelsior. The theme of this year's conference was English for 21st century skills.

The conference was addressed by international leading experts in the field, as well as by local ELT experts with practical experience in the industry and the information technology sector. A variety of topics, ranging from creative pedagogy, innovative teaching resources, critical thinking and the use of digital technology, were discussed in 21 workshops, 13 talks and four plenary sessions.

The conference was attended by over 300 teachers working in the English language teaching sector. It was officially inaugurated by Clifton Grima, parliamentary secretary for Youth, Sport and Voluntary Organisations and ELT Council chairperson Dr Daniel Xerri. The conference contributes to the required continued professional development of educators in the ELT sector by exposing them to the latest developments in the field.

Dr Xerri said: "Over the past six years, this conference has helped to further establish Malta's place on the international ELT map." Sue Falzon, ELT Council CEO, said: "The conference has become an annual international appointment which confirms Malta's reputation for excellence in ELT."
