Clyde Puli is the only nominee for the post of Secretary General of the Nationalist Party, a PN statement said today.

The PN had earlier announced that Pierre Portelli will be occupying the role of Executive Chairman of Media.link, the media branch of the party.

Puli has been an MP since 2003 and has been elected in every election since. Puli served as Parliamentary Secretary of Youth and Sport between 2008-2013 under the Gonzi Administration, however, he was behind the proposed conversion of the White Rocks Complex into a sports village which failed to materialise.

The project, which had been announced by the Gonzi in 2010, and was meant to include a €200 million investment that would generate 800 jobs.

David Casa, the longest serving MEP, pulled out of the race for the secretary general post now occupied by Rosette Thake on Thursday.

““I am ready and willing to serve as PN Secretary General. However, in light of recent events and following discussions with my colleagues and PN Leader Adrian Delia, I am convinced that - now more than ever - it is my duty to keep serving the Party and the country in the European Parliament,”Casa wrote in a social media post on Facebook.

Other nominations received for posts in the party executive are the following:

Mark Anthony Sammut for president of the party executive committee; David Stellini for president of the administrative committee; David Camilleri for treasurer and Roselyn Borg for the post of international secretary.

The formal appointments will be announced at the next executive committee meeting on 23 November.
