Church in Malta celebrates Day of the Poor

The Church in Malta will be joining to Universal Church on Sunday to celebrate the Day of the Poor, a Curia statement said. The theme of the day is “Love through action, not words”. The Day of the Poor is being celebrated on the initiative of Pope Francis.

For this occasion, 16 Church entities together with the Justice and Peace Commission took part in a ceremony held in Valletta on Friday. They appealed for a change in mentality towards poor people, in the hope that they become central to decisions taken in their regard.

The entities that took part in the ceremony were Caritas, Ejjew Għandi Commission, Elderly People’s Homes Commission, Emigrants Commission, Dar tal-Providenza, Dar Hosea, Dar Merħba Bik, Jesuit Refugee Service, Paulo Freire Institute, San Vinċenz de Paul Society, the Catholic Action, Millenium Chapel, Suret il-Bniedem Foundation, Dar Osanna Pia, St Jeanne Antide Foundation and Pastoral Work in Hospitals sector.
