A man was seriously injured this afternoon while burning fireworks debris in a field in Ghaxaq, the police said.

The 29-year-old, of Ghaxaq, was burning the debris in the area known as tal-Garda at 5pm when the accident happened.

He was given first assistance by a medical team before being taken to Mater Dei Hospital.
