The Board of Standard Publications, owners of The Malta Independent media house, has appointed Rachel Attard as its Editor-in-Chief. She will develop and manage the editorial policy of the daily and Sunday newspapers, as well as the web portal.

Rachel Attard graduated from the University of Malta with a BA (Hons) in Sociology and has been a journalist for the past 16 years. While still at university, Rachel joined the RTK newsroom as a reporter and was later engaged as a current affairs programme anchor. Upon graduation she joined the leading current affairs programme Bondi+ as a journalist and assistant producer.

After a decade working as a television journalist, Attard joined Standard Publications three years ago as News Editor. In this post she managed and worked with one of Malta’s most effective teams of editors and journalists, bringing daily investigative stories, news and current affairs reportage to an increasingly wider circle of readers.

Attard states: “I am humbled and honoured by the trust that the Board has put in me. I am deeply committed to make the Independent not only the news and information source of choice but also the platform for vibrant debate and analysis. I shall try to do this through clear editorial policy, reliable information, more investigative journalism and, above all, integrity.”

She and her partner, Lou Bondi, have a four year-old daughter, Clara.
