574 AFM officials received promotions in month leading up to elections

A total of 574 AFM officials received promotions in the month leading up to the May general elections, figures tabled in parliament this evening by Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Michael Farrugia show.

The information was tabled in reply to a question by Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi, who asked Farrugia for a list of promotions received by soldiers and officers between 1 May and 2 June 2017, including those who may have retired from service.

The list included both those who received regular promotions or as a consequence of a decision made by the Grievances Board.

The majority of AFM officials were promoted to the position of staff sergeeant (173), whilst 147 officials were promoted to the position of Bombardier (147). Seven were promoted to the position of Colonel and two were promoted both to the position of Captain and Major.

61 were promoted to Warrant Officer2 and 12 to Warrant Officer1.
