Farrugia calls on speaker to make ruling regarding third party’s speaking time in parliament

PD MP Godfrey Farrugia has called on the Speaker of the House Anglu Farrugia to take a ruling over the time allocated to both PD MPs, Marlene Farrugia and himself, during parliamentary debate, which safeguards the freedom of expression.

"In this house we pride ourselves over the right to equality, that we do not tolerate discrimination, that we are inclusive, that we are democratic, "Farrguia argued.

He said that both he and Marlene Farrugia sometimes face difficulties relating to the amount of time allotted for them to be heard in Parliament, adding that he does not want to take anyone's time, but wants to have time of his own. He asked the Speaker for a ruling.

Farrugia, while forming part of a third party, is part of the PN  Parliamentary Group given that both MPs made it to parliament through a coalition with the opposition.

Currently, the only way both MPs can be granted more speaking time is when it is provided by the opposition.

There has long been criticism tabled before both PN and PL for failing to accommodate third parties into the country's political system.
