At the end of last month there were 588 inmates at the Corradino Correctional Facility (CCF).

432 were serving sentences and 156 were being held under preventive custody, which means they had been denied bail and were being kept in prison pending the outcome of their case.

The information was provided by Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia in reply to a parliamentary question by PN MP Carm Mifsud Bonnici.

In reply to another PQ, Farrugia said there were 490 people who had been held at the Corradino prison for some reason or another in the period 1 January – 31 October.

The Minister also revealed that during that same time period, there were 60 people who had their fines converted to prison time.
