Updated: Nationalist Party denies it is in precarious financial situation

Wednesday, 22 November 2017, 16:43 Last update: about 7 years ago

The Nationalist Party is categorically denying that it has found itself in a precarious financial situation. The PN was reacting to a story featured on MaltaToday which claimed that the party intends to sell party clubs in an attempt to generate income. The story also alleged that the party finances will only last till January.

"The PN denies this recent spin by the Labour Party to try and destabilize the financial restructuring plan in the party to bring it back on its feet. The new administration will honour the restructuring plan which started some years ago which included the sale of certain properties for commercial reasons."

The PN did deny the sale of the Naxxar PN club but fails to mention the other three localities mentioned in the article, including the club in Zejtun. "The Labour Party is trying to hide the collapse of the rule of law."

"Muscat should instead tell us how he's using public money to hand it out for his clique. The public can rest assured that the party finances are in order."

The statement ends, coincidentally, by reminding the public about a fund raising marathon to be held soon. This is not the first time that various news reports raised the flags about the dire financial situation inside the party.

PL reaction

Reacting, the Labour Party said the PM did not need to destabilize an already destabilized Opposition.

It also described as shameful the PN’s attack on an independent newspaper over a report which, according to the PN’s own statement, had correct details.

“This is truly desperate behaviour from someone who, it is turning out, cannot even keep his word with the paid up members,” the PL said.
