The court today released a man who attempted to resist arrest at the Paola Police Station in a frantic incident which took place on Tuesday evening.

The incident took place at 7pm after Stephen Borg, the 39 year old-resident from Birkirkakra, ran out of the police station and entered his car after being informed that an arrest warrant will be issued in his regard.

Borg pleaded not guilty to charges concerning the assault and violent resistance from police officers, one of whom was slightly injured, disobeying police orders, and driving recklessly.

The court, which was presided over by Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace, heard from Inspector Hubert Cini that Borg was immediately apologetic and repeated his remorse throughout his police statement.

This was reiterated by defence counsel Mario Mifsud who insisted that Borg did not intent to cause any injuries to any individual.

A request for bail was upheld against a personal guarantee of €3,000 and under the condition of signing the bail book once weekly on Monday.
