The Malta customs department has moved ahead with its programme of investments in order to gear itself for new challenges.

The department has just purchased another x-ray container scanner. The new €2 million scanner, co-financed by the European Union, has now arrived in Malta and is being installed at the Freeport.

"The Department has also completed a €0.5 million investment at the Freeport, through the modernisation of its warehouse and the enhancement of its scanning facilities. This project will officially be inaugurated early next year."

"In addition, this week the customs department has registered another break-through, in the sense that the Planning Authority has approved the development application of a new Canine Unit Compound at Hal Far. The Canine Unit project is another project that is being co-financed by the European Union."
