UHM files industrial complaint against Wasteserv, claims new workers are discriminated

Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 13:59 Last update: about 7 years ago

UHM Voice of the Workers has called on WasteServ to ensure that the recent collective agreement covers all workers, with no distinction or discrimination.

In a press release, UHM said it had previously managed, together with the company, to address the discrimination between workers at Wasteserv and those employed by a contractor who provided services to the company. The union said that this had been achieved through a 'historic agreement' and was satisfactory for workers and employers alike.

"Unfortunately the story has repeated itself and new situations emerged where workers who joined the company now did not receive the payments they were entitled to as per the collective agreement."

UHM said it already complained about this issue with the management of the company and some issues were already addressed. "There are, however, certain workers who are still being discriminated against," the statement read.

UHM has filed an industrial complaint on the matter and is asking for a meeting with the DIER, the Director of Industrial and Employers Relations.
